- Teach in assigned didactic, clinical (direct patient care), lab and/or simulated labs while supervising student participation as required by specific course objectives.
- Provide expertise and guidance during treatment of dental patients in accordance with the Florida State Dental Practice Act
Examples of Duties- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
- Meet all course, laboratory and/or clinical requirements or assignments.
- Return patient charts in a timely manner.
- Maintain current knowledge of discipline (via professional development), educational methodologies, CODA accreditation standards and college and program policies and procedures.
- Exhibit and uphold the six values of professionalism (as defined by ADEA) at all times.
- Comply with and demonstrate knowledge of policies contained in the most current Dental Programs Manual.
- Remain current regarding compliance and accreditation standards for the program - Commission on Dental Accreditation and Florida Board of Dentistry.
- Participate in dental program meetings, professional growth training, seminars and workshops as they become available.
- Supervise and provide didactic and clinical instruction as assigned while utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline that facilitates student learning.
- Teach assigned classes, labs and clinic sessions on-campus and off-campus. Provide supervision of all assigned students and/or clinical groups.
- Update didactic, laboratory and/or clinical assignments to be relevant, demonstrating evidence based practices.
- If applicable, coordinate didactic material with learning activities between the clinic, lab, and classroom setting.
- Comply with course, laboratory and/or clinic requirements and assignments; provide/post grades in a timely manner.
- Organize, create, and maintain all course related data such as attendance, records, grades, exams, and student evaluation of instruction.
- Demonstrate competency in computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs and Course Management Delivery Systems) for didactic instruction and any computer skills required for the delivery of the clinical and/or laboratory components (Eaglesoft Practice Management System and CAESY).
- Work as a team player within the dental programs department and work collaboratively with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and other educational partners.
- Provide availability to meet with allied dental students as outlined in the GCSC Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
- Cooperate with the Program Coordinator(s) in periodic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of courses and program objectives.
- Propose adjustments to course and/or clinics based on assessment outcomes.
- Engage in self-evaluation activities and/or performance planning each academic year as defined by the Programs Coordinator and/or College.
OTHER DUTIES: - The ability to be flexible in scheduling work hours including coverage demands due to training periods and equipment problems is required.
- The ability to travel locally and out of town on college related business and training may be required.
- There are no "faculty practice" privileges granted within the GCSC Dental Programs. Employees may not utilize the GCSC Dental Clinic/Lab or any dental program facilities for personal use/gain or to provide dental services to patients who are not scheduled in an assigned Dental Programs clinical or laboratory course.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Assistant Coordinator(s) of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting and/or the Coordinator of Dental Programs.
Typical Qualifications For didactic/, clinic, or lab instruction: Must be a graduate dental hygienist or dentist from an ADA accredited program. *Must possess a Bachelor's or higher in the field or acceptable degree based on accreditation standards. Master's degree preferred for didactic instruction.
For clinic/lab instruction: DANB Certified Dental Assistant - current certificate in good standing based on accreditation standards. Graduation from an accredited ADA dental assisting program preferred.
For didactic instruction: Bachelor's degree in field or acceptable degree based on accreditation standards required. Master's degree preferred.
