Leidos Defense Systems is on the lookout for a High Speed Digital Design Section Lead to spearhead the development of unique solutions to tackle complex problems. We operate in various fields including defense, space, cyber, and commercial sectors, providing innovative engineering, scientific, and IT solutions.

The Electrical Systems Department is composed of skilled engineers focused on advanced hardware solutions. In this role, you will not only lead a talented team of Electrical Design Engineers but also actively engage as a contributor on programs for both internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include nurturing and expanding your team to meet organizational objectives, with a focus on scaling operations and enhancing quality. You will handle various projects involving electronic assemblies for diverse aerospace and military systems, including manned and unmanned vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. Successfully managing your time and priorities will be crucial for ensuring the success of both projects and the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide meaningful technical guidance and mentorship to foster team development.

  • Build strong relationships with team members to achieve productivity and retention goals.

  • Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-ones to enhance communication.

  • Identify team expansion needs, write job postings, manage applicant screening, and conduct interviews.

  • Design, develop, and test complex PCB designs with embedded microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, or SoCs according to system requirements.

  • Implement and propose strategies for enhancing quality, agility, and overall capability within the organization.

  • Support business development initiatives by providing technical insights for proposals.

  • Manage necessary reporting and administrative tasks efficiently.

  • Offer technical expertise during program planning and the execution of engineering projects.

  • Oversee all aspects of hardware system development, from requirements to design, fabrication, integration, and testing.

  • Allocate approximately 25% of your time to management tasks and 75% to technical challenges.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 2 years leading small to mid-sized technical teams.

  • At least 5 years of experience in high-speed digital PCB design and troubleshooting in embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA-based systems.

  • Experience utilizing high-speed design analysis tools such as HyperLynx.

  • Familiarity with multiple high-speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g., GigE, 10 GigE, DDR2, DDR4, PCIe).

  • Proven track record in technical problem-solving and root cause analysis.

  • Able to decompose complex system-level requirements into lower-level design specifications.

  • Ready to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams accurately.

  • Strong understanding of fundamental circuits and components.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation and testing equipment.

  • Self-motivated and capable of independent work.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the North Alabama area, specifically Huntsville, AL.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited university.

  • Experience in personnel management, including hiring and employee development.

  • Knowledge or experience in process improvement initiatives.

  • A background in project management, including oversight of costs and schedules.

  • Familiarity with business development activities, including proposal creation.

  • Experience in electrical design for military hardware or aerospace systems.

Security Requirements:

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Final Secret Clearance.

Anticipated Pay Range: $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
