Lead AI Architect. Job in Tempe Top Essex Careers

We are seeking an experienced Lead Architect with a strong background in SaaS systems and modern cloud platforms. In this position, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of platform architecture - from vision and design to implementation and iteration - across scalable, AI-driven software products. You will act as a bridge between engineering, product, and delivery teams to ensure technical excellence, architectural consistency, and alignment with long-term product strategy.
The ideal candidate has previously led the architecture of complex SaaS or data platforms, is comfortable making decisions in uncertain or fast-changing environments, and can mentor senior developers while ensuring the platform remains performant, secure, and cost-efficient. This position is hybrid to our office in Tempe, Arizona.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of professional software development experience
Extensive experience architecting and scaling SaaS platforms or large distributed systems
Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes and managed cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Proven ability to design high-performance, reliable systems that meet defined SLOs
Experience with AI, machine learning, or generative AI systems
Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across engineering, product, and security functions
Experience implementing testing and development standards across large codebases
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience in organizations building AI-powered or data-intensive products
Strong knowledge of distributed systems, observability, and scalability in multi-tenant SaaS environments
Prior experience mentoring senior engineers and leading architecture initiatives across teams
Familiarity with compliance frameworks or regulations related to AI and data security (e.g., EU AI Act)
