Description
Join Leidos, a company where innovation thrives through the talent and diversity of our team. We are committed to customer success, empowering our employees, giving back to communities, and promoting sustainability. Our Mission, Vision, and Values drive our operations. We are currently seeking a skilled Lead Firmware and FPGA Development Engineer to contribute to sophisticated solutions for space-based projects.
Job Overview
As a Lead Firmware and FPGA Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the Space Sensing & Security engineering team at Leidos. You will leverage your FPGA expertise to design and create innovative FPGA-based solutions for space-based products, impacting current and future sensor projects. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers, systems engineers, and scientists to develop, simulate, and integrate advanced FPGA designs in cutting-edge hardware setups.
We are eager to enhance your FPGA techniques for groundbreaking board development technologies. You will work on creating FPGA design solutions based on customer specifications and have a strong foundation in implementing FPGA algorithms in MATLAB and FPGAs. This role also involves supporting integration, testing, and verification of final products.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team to implement and integrate FPGA designs and sensor systems.
- Analyze, design, simulate, and implement algorithms using hardware descriptor languages (VHDL, Verilog) based on MATLAB models.
- Create and validate HDL test benches in hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog) for thorough code validation.
- Examine schematic diagrams for both custom and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronic hardware related to FPGA-centric systems.
- Conduct experimental evaluations on advanced FPGA and SoC evaluation boards, assess results, and define specifications for next-generation components.
- Tackle diverse challenges by determining methods and procedures for new assignments and sharing insights with fellow technical staff.
- Develop comprehensive project test plans and procedures, along with facilitating lab and field testing.
- Maintain updated requirements documents, functional specifications, and interface control documents.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 8-12 years of relevant experience.
- Deep understanding of FPGA system design and testing.
- Experience in embedded Software/Firmware design.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and MATLAB.
- Familiarity with several high-speed serial communication standards (e.g., Aurora, 10Ge, PCIe, DDR4/3/2/1, JESD204B).
- Experienced with version control systems such as SVN and Git.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation and testing methods.
- Must be a US Citizen and possess (and maintain) a Final DoD Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with modern Xilinx FPGA families and design tools (7-series FPGAs, Ultrascale+, Vivado, Xilinx IP cores).
- Experience with SoC designs such as Zynq and Zynq Ultrascale+, including peripheral interfacing and bus architectures.
- Experience developing FPGA-optimized DSP algorithms (e.g., modulation/demodulation, PLLs, filters, image processing).
- Knowledge of internal interfaces like AXI4, AXI4-Stream, and AXI4-Lite.
- Experience with embedded operating systems (e.g., RTOS like Green Hills).
- A Master's (MS) degree in an Engineering discipline is a plus.
