The Role and the Company

The Safety Professional role is based in Mason City, IA, and reports directly to the Safety Director.
What you'll get to do
Coordinate and administer safety programs at the plant
Perform or coordinate industrial hygiene tests
Assure that all employees, visitors, and contractors are properly trained in job hazards and safe work practices
Conduct safety audits as needed and assist the plant manager in representing the plant during regulatory agency inspections
Assist in developing and administering task training for all employees and the onboarding of new hires, including New Miner training
Chair the plant Safety and Health Committee
Assist in developing or locating specialized training programs as well as the administration of such programs
Maintain accurate record keeping of safety compliance and employee training records
Effectively manage the reduction of all accidents in the workplace
Manage all Workers' Compensation claims and accident reporting effectively
Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging regulatory issues for employee safety and health
Guides the purchase and maintenance of safety equipment
Conduct compliance inspections by actively walking the plant daily to review safety practices and potential hazards
Ensures safety systems are maintained and data is accurate
Proactively manages the health and safety of employees to continuously improve the company's health and safety performance
Participate in intra-company audits upon request
Essential Experience and Skills
At least 3 years of safety management experience in heavy manufacturing or mining
Bachelor's degree or a strong combination of training, certifications, and extensive safety and industrial hygiene experience in construction materials or adjacent industry
Experience in industrial hygiene sampling and computation
Excellent knowledge of MSHA and other relevant statutes and regulations
Proven experience as a skilled safety trainer
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Detail orientated with the ability to prepare clear and complete reports and analysis
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the proven ability to be effective with all levels of the organization
Preferred Experience and Skills
Certified Mine Safety Professional qualification preferred

The role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
